Frontpage Express Help - Getting Started
Getting Started
Frontpage Express will open in a blank page. The first thing to do is save your page to your project folder. What you call your page is entirely up to you but avoid using spaces in the name, for the purposes of OU if this is your homepage it is normal practice to name this a index.html or index.htm - Frontpage Express will give you file the htm extension by default. Save your file by going to File -> Save As from the menubar or click on the Save icon (it the one that looks like a floppy disk) in the task bar.
The first thing you need to do is save your first page in your project file with your page elements. Open Frontpage Express and choose file > save. In the box that opens type index as the file name and then select 'As File'

The 'Save As' window will open. Find and open your project file and click save.
Probably the next thing to do is set your default font. Go to the Tools menu and select Font Options - the following window should appear.

Leave the Character Set as US/Western European if it isn't selected select it now, then select your choice of fonts and click OK. These will be your default fonts but you can change them in your page if you wish - see Text Formatting.
What to to Next
This rather depends what you have in mind - I usually set my background, link colours etc. now, then set up the table for farmatting the page though I don't always use tables. After that I usually put the text in and finally the images and buttons. Having said all that there may be several versions of a page with different colourings, layouts etc. before I decide on the final version. Nothing is set in stone you can go back and edit your creation as often as you like but make sure you save copies of each incarnation until you decide on which version to run with then either delete the others or copy them to another folder away from your project folder. Finally do make sure that you have copied all your images, buttons etc to your project folder best to do this before you insert and link them.
