TU170 Online Learning: Computing with Confidence
TU170 is the original first module from T171 You, Your Computer and the Net which itself was changed for the 2002 presentation. I did T171 in 2001 so effectively I have completed TU170.
Section 1 - Joining the online world
In this part of the TU170 course you will learn to use e-mail and computer conferencing specifically the Open Universities FirstClass email and conferencing system, during this section you will 'get-online' with your fellow students for the first time. I you are going to be taking more Open University courses then this section is an excellent introduction to FirstClass.
Section 2 - Effective groupwork online
This section consolidates group working and netiquette skills learnt in section 1.
Section 3 - Computing with confidence
This section introduces word processors, graphics, spreadsheets, databases, integrated documents.
Section 4 - Web skills
The final part of the course is probably the most fun, you learn the basics of HTML, in order to prepare and publish web pages. In your final assignment you produce and individual webpage on a topic which is part of a group channel created by the group you are working with.
How to Use this Site
The TU170 and T171 pages have similar content and to avoid duplication of web pages, content applicable to both courses is shared. If you find you are in the T171 section don't worry it's planned, to return to the TU170 section just click on the TU170 Index link. Feel free to browse the T171 there's loads of information that may be of use to you.
